About

Camping in Nova Scotia several years ago with our friends Steve and Christine, Steve and I were sitting by the campfire reading. There may have been beer. There may even have been cigars. I don’t remember what he was reading, but I was reading Hemingway. Steve commented on my vast outdoor experiences growing up in the wilds of British Columbia juxtaposed with my literary interests and education. “You’re an educated woodsman,” he said. It stuck. Now it is the name of my blog.

I like to work with words. I am from British Columbia, Canada, and married a beautiful woman from Prince Edward Island, Canada, who inspires me to do my best. We live in a hundred year old farmhouse in rural PEI and have two amazing young daughters who remind us every day what is most important in life. They call me Daddy, but I also go by Dan.

I find myself at a place in life where new doors are opening on new opportunities. That’s exciting. It creates a window to look at past experiences in anticipation of what the future will bring. It is all positive and all motivating. I like to reflect on the milestones we pass as we navigate the path in front of us. It helps define the idea that if we seek out what we truly love the rest will fall into place.
